What these tools are for
PDF tools take care of the paperwork jobs that come up when documents have to be sent, printed or filed. Merge PDF joins several files into one, such as a cover letter, a CV and a certificate for a job application, or a month of receipts for an expense claim. You set the order on the cards, and each card shows which pages its file fills in the result, so you can check the order before you save it. Split PDF goes the other way: it cuts one PDF into smaller files, one per page, a set number of pages each, or the page ranges you name, such as only the signed pages of a contract. JPG to PDF starts from pictures instead: it puts photos of receipts, pictures of paper forms or screenshots into one PDF, one image per page, in JPG, PNG, WebP and other formats.
How they work
Your files are processed by your browser, on your device. They aren’t uploaded, and there’s no account or sign-up. Merge and split copy each page as it is, with its size and rotation, into a new file that leaves out the originals’ document details, such as title and author. Your original files aren’t changed. JPG to PDF turns photos upright, keeps the picture of a standard upright JPG without a colour profile as it is and redraws other images at high quality, and always removes location and camera data from the images.
Tips
- Put the files in order before you download. The merged file updates after every move, add or remove.
- A PDF that needs a password, or that is locked against printing or copying, is refused. Save a copy without the protection in the app that opens it, then add that copy.
- Check the page count in the result. A merged file has the pages of every file you added; a split shows how many pages went in and how many files came out.
- To split, write page ranges with commas, such as 1-3, 5, 8-. A range ending in a dash runs to the last page.
- For photos of paper documents, choose A4 or US Letter in JPG to PDF, so the pages print at a normal size.
- Large files take longer on a phone. A computer handles big documents more quickly.
