What these tools are for
Security and privacy tools make the things you’d rather nobody else saw. The password generator makes random passwords for a new account, a shared login or a Wi-Fi network, from capital and small letters, digits and symbols, each password holding at least one character of every set you choose. It can leave out characters that are easy to mix up, such as 0 and O, and it gives the computed entropy of what it makes: how many passwords it could have made with your settings, in bits.
How they work
Everything is made in your browser, on your device, with its cryptographic random number generator. Nothing they make is uploaded or stored, and there’s no account or sign-up. Open a tool and it starts with fresh results; change an option and new ones appear.
Tips
- Copy all puts every password on your clipboard, one per line; Copy next to a password copies just that one.
- The tools remember your options on this device, never what they make.
- The computed entropy describes a password exactly as it was made. Change a character by hand and the figure no longer applies.
- Some sites don’t accept every symbol. Turn Symbols off and the passwords and their entropy line update straight away.
