What these tools are for
Developer tools answer the quick questions that come up while you code, debug or read logs. Base64 encode and decode turns a value from a config file, an HTTP header or a data URL into readable text, or text into Base64 to paste into a request. The JWT decoder shows a token’s header and claims, with its issue and expiry times as dates, while you debug a login. Each tool does one job and shows the result as you type, so there’s no script to write and no terminal to open.
How they work
Everything runs in your browser, on your device. Values you paste, which can include tokens, keys or customer data, aren’t uploaded or stored, and there’s no account or sign-up. Open a tool, paste and read the result.
Tips
- Encoding isn’t protection. Base64 can be read by anyone, so treat an encoded secret as a secret written in plain text.
- When a value won’t decode, the error names the line and column of the first character that doesn’t fit. Check there for a character lost or added while copying.
- Swap moves a result back into the input and switches direction, a quick way to check a round trip.
- Decoding a JWT doesn’t verify it. The claims are readable by anyone; only the signature, checked by the system that holds the key, shows whether the token is genuine.
