What it does
Watermark PDF puts one line of text, such as “CONFIDENTIAL” or “DRAFT”, across every page of your PDF, so a copy is marked. Your original file isn’t changed.
- Text: the words to put on each page; CONFIDENTIAL until you type your own. It isn’t remembered for your next visit.
- Layout: diagonal (the default), corner to corner, or straight across the middle.
- Strength: light (20% opacity), medium (35%, the default) or strong (50%).
The text is grey Helvetica Bold, centred on each page and sized to three quarters of the diagonal (or the width), at most 144 points. The result says how many pages were marked, such as “12 pages watermarked”.
How to use it
- Drop your PDFs on the box, paste them, or select Choose files. Select “Try a sample” to see a 2-page memo, with one turned page, watermarked at once.
- Type your Text, and choose the Layout and the Strength. The files are ready a moment after each change.
- Select Download PDF to save the result. With several PDFs, select Download on a card to save one, or Download all to save them together in a ZIP file. Each PDF is named after your file, such as
memo-watermarked.pdf. - Press Ctrl+Enter (⌘+Enter on a Mac) to run it again, or Esc to stop a run that’s still working.
Good to know
- The font covers English and Western European letters (such as é, ü and ñ), digits and common symbols such as € and £. A character it can’t show, such as ł or ₹, is named at the Text field before any file is opened.
- Each page keeps its text, pictures, size and rotation, and the pages keep their order; the watermark is drawn on top.
- On a page that’s turned, the watermark is placed as viewers show the page; on a cropped page it’s centred in the part you can see.
- Password-protected PDFs, and PDFs locked with restrictions, are refused. Save a copy without the protection first.
- Fillable form fields don’t stay fillable, and the new file has no title or author from the original.
Limits
You can watermark up to 10 PDFs at once, each up to 100 MB and 1,000 pages. The text can be up to 60 characters.
Privacy
Your PDFs stay on your device: the tool runs in your browser and doesn’t upload them. A watermarked file starts without the original’s document details, such as its title, author and the app that made it. When the site shows ads, Google can use cookies for them: in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google asks for your consent first, and elsewhere Google’s own policies apply. The Privacy page explains how.
