What it does
Split PDF cuts one PDF into smaller PDFs, so you can send only the pages someone needs, keep a chapter on its own or file each page separately. Your original file isn’t changed.
- One file per page is the default: add a PDF and every page comes out as its own file.
- Equal parts: set Pages per file to cut the PDF every 2, 5 or 10 pages, the last part taking whatever is left.
- Page ranges: name the pages you want, such as
1-3, 5, 8-, and get one file per range in the order you wrote them. Pages you don’t name are left out. - Pages stay as they were: each page keeps its size and rotation.
The result shows how many pages went in and how many files came out, with the sizes before and after.
How to use it
- Drop your PDF on the box, paste it, or select Choose a file. Select “Try a sample” to see a 6-page example split by your current settings.
- Choose how to split it under Split by: Pages per file, or Page ranges. The files are ready a moment after each change.
- Select Download all to save every part in one ZIP file, or Download PDF when there’s only one part. The parts are named after your file, such as
report-page-3.pdforreport-pages-4-6.pdf. - Press Ctrl+Enter (⌘+Enter on a Mac) to split again, or Esc to stop a split that’s still working.
Writing page ranges
- Separate ranges with commas:
1-3, 5, 8-. 5is one page,1-3is pages 1 to 3, and8-runs from page 8 to the last page.- Put the lower page first:
4-9, not9-4. - Each range is one file, in the order written. A page can appear in more than one range.
Good to know
- You can split one PDF at a time, up to 200 MB and 1,000 pages. Adding another PDF replaces the one there.
- The parts can hold up to 1,000 pages together, so repeated or overlapping ranges count each time.
- Password-protected PDFs, and PDFs locked with restrictions, are refused. Save a copy without the protection first.
- The document’s bookmarks and its list of attachments aren’t kept; comments and files attached to a page stay with that page.
- Web links keep working, but links that jump to another page in the same file may not.
- Fillable form fields and the accessibility tags that give screen readers the reading order aren’t carried over. The parts have no title or author from the original file.
Privacy
Your PDF is processed on your device: the tool runs in your browser and doesn’t upload it. Each part starts without the original’s document details, such as title, author and the app that made it. Comments and files attached to a page stay with that page, and comments keep their author names and dates. Pictures inside the pages are copied as they are, along with any data they carry.
