What it does
The invoice generator makes a PDF invoice from a form:
- Your details: the invoice number, the invoice date, the payment terms, From and Bill to.
- Items: up to 100 lines, each with a description, a quantity and a unit price.
- Totals: the subtotal, an optional discount, the tax at the rate you enter and the total due.
- Notes: a closing line such as how to pay.
The totals are shown on the page as you type, and Download PDF saves the invoice.
How to use it
- Type the invoice number and pick the invoice date and the payment terms. The due date follows from them.
- Fill in From with your details and Bill to with your client’s, one line each for the name and the address.
- Add an item for each line of work or product, with its quantity and unit price. Remove item takes a line out.
- Pick the currency and type the tax rate. Under More options, pick the tax name, a discount and the page size, A4 or Letter.
- Select Download PDF. The file is named after the invoice number, like invoice-INV-0001.pdf.
The page remembers your payment terms, currency, tax rate, tax name, discount and page size on this device. The invoice number, the date, From, Bill to, the items and the notes aren’t kept.
How the totals are worked out
Every amount is worked out in whole cents, so the sums never drift:
- Line amount = quantity × unit price, rounded half up to the cent once per line.
- Subtotal = the sum of the line amounts.
- Discount = subtotal × discount %, rounded to the cent.
- Tax = (subtotal − discount) × tax rate %, rounded to the cent.
- Total due = subtotal − discount + tax.
For example, 1 × 1,200.00 and 12 × 15.00 make a subtotal of 1,380.00; tax at 10% adds 138.00, for a total due of 1,518.00. The discount and tax rows appear only when their rate isn’t 0.
Good to know
- Amounts are written with two decimals and the currency as its code, such as USD or EUR, not a symbol.
- Quantities take up to 3 decimals, unit prices up to 2, each from 0 to 1,000,000.
- The due date is the invoice date plus the terms’ days; Due on receipt keeps the invoice date.
- The PDF draws Helvetica’s characters only: English and Western European letters, digits and common symbols such as € and £.
- The tax is what you enter: no tax rules are checked, and the invoice gives no tax or legal advice.
- The PDF carries no hidden document details, such as an author or the app that made it.
Privacy
The invoice is made in your browser, on your device, and nothing you type is uploaded. Only your settings are kept, in this browser’s storage, so the page can show them again.
