What it does

The invisible character tool works on characters you can’t see:

How to use it

  1. Type or paste your text into “Your text”. Select “Try a sample” to see an example.
  2. Choose an action: Show, Remove or Insert.
  3. For Insert, choose the Character: Zero-width space U+200B, Word joiner U+2060, Hangul filler U+3164 or Braille blank U+2800.
  4. The result appears next to your text and updates as you type. Select Copy to put it on your clipboard, or, for Insert, the Copy button of the row on its own to copy just the character.

Frequently asked questions

Which characters count as invisible?

Characters that show nothing on their own: zero-width spaces and joiners, the word joiner, the byte order mark, soft hyphens, control characters, spaces other than the ordinary one (such as the no-break space), the Hangul filler and the Braille blank. Ordinary spaces, tabs, line breaks and accents that sit on a letter don't count. Nor do other marks such as the combining grapheme joiner U+034F and variation selectors, or private-use and unassigned characters.

How do I make a blank name?

Choose Insert, pick Hangul filler U+3164 or Braille blank U+2800, and select the Copy button of the row on its own. Paste it as your name. Some games and apps accept it as a name that looks empty; others reject it, and which ones do can change.

Are the joiners inside emoji removed?

No. An emoji such as a family or the flag of Scotland is built from several characters held together by zero-width joiners or tag characters. Those belong to the emoji, so Show doesn't count them and Remove keeps them.

Is it safe to remove joiners from Persian or Indic text?

Check first. Persian and Indic scripts use the zero-width non-joiner U+200C and the zero-width joiner U+200D to control how letters connect. They count as invisible here, so Remove deletes them and the words can look different. Use Show to see where they are before you remove them.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Your text is processed on your device by your browser and is never sent to a server. Only the action and character you chose are remembered for your next visit.
