What it does

The age calculator counts the time from a date of birth to the Age on date and shows:

The answer updates as soon as you change a date.

How to use it

  1. Enter the date of birth with the calendar, or type the year, month and day.
  2. Age on starts as today. Change it to work out the age on another date.
  3. Select Copy result to put the answer on your clipboard.

Neither date is kept: after a reload the form shows its example date of birth and today again.

How it’s calculated

The calculator counts whole months from the date of birth: a month is counted when the same day comes round again. Twelve months make a year, and the days left after the last whole month are the days. The total days are the calendar days between the two dates.

For example, from 15 June 1990 to 10 March 2026 there are 428 whole months, which reach 15 February 2026, and 23 days more: 35 years, 8 months and 23 days.

Frequently asked questions

How is a 29 February birthday counted?

In a leap year the birthday is 29 February. In a common year, which has no 29 February, it counts on 28 February. So someone born on 29 February 2000 turns 25 on 28 February 2025 and 28 on 29 February 2028, and Next birthday names that date.

How are the months counted?

A month is counted each time the same day of the month comes round again, so from 15 June to 15 July is 1 month. From the 31st, or from the 29th or 30th, the last day of a shorter month counts instead. Whatever is left over after the whole months is shown in days.

Can I work out an age on a past or future date?

Yes. Change Age on to any date from the date of birth up to the year 9999. That gives an age on a past date, such as the start of a course, or on a future one, such as a deadline on a form.

Why does the age stay the same on the day before a birthday?

An age counts whole years. On the day before a birthday the last year isn’t complete yet, so the age goes up only on the birthday itself.
